During our first week back we have been reading The Story Machine by Tom Mclaughlin. It is about a boy called Elliot who found an old type writer and discovered he could make pictures on it that tell stories.
We investigated nouns that begin with each letter of the alphabet then used these to help us write a kenning poem. We looked at the images from the story and noticed they were all made of letters. We experimented making our own drawings out of letters with pencils and on the computer. We also decorated letters to make a class alphabet.
We began learning about our project for this half term – Egypt. We thought about what we already know and what we would like to find out. Our questions varied from: ‘What did ancient Egyptians eat?’ to ‘Did they like going to the beach?’.
During this project we will look at the importance of the River Nile, the pyramids and the gods. We will look at the process of mummification and explore some Egyptian myths and fairy tales. We will also learn about the discovery of Tutankhamen’s tomb. We are going to build up to making an Egyptian museum in class displaying all of our work.
